Could Clinton End The Problem Of Health Insurance For People With Pre-existing Conditions?
As the Presidential Election heats up it is no surprise to discover that health care and in particular health insurance is towards the top of the agenda and, for tens of thousands of people, the potential for finding a solution for the problem of affordable insurance coverage for people suffering from pre-existing conditions may make Hillary Clinton's proposal an attractive option. But will it work? As with the majority of proposals it sounds wonderful and promises new choices for people who presently have insurance coverage and also for the forty-seven million US citizens who are currently without insurance coverage. Additionally, it promises to reduce your premiums and provide you with better security of cover. For those suffering from pre-existing conditions it promises to "end discrimination based on pre-existing conditions or expectations of illness". Hillary's new plan to meet America's health insurance needs calls upon insurers to work collaboratively with both patients and employers to provide a high standard of health care at an affordable price and on government to implement reforms to the health care system in order to both improve the quality of care and decrease costs. Now of course this is just what everybody wants to see but if it was really that simple why is the health care system in such a mess today and why are costs increasing instead of decreasing? The simple truth is that this is merely the latest in a long list of proposals to reform the health insurance system and is pie in the sky. In fact it is little more than a political plan that is extremely well written and beautifully presented and will undoubtedly to a certain extent achieve its objective, which is quite simply to win votes. However, it will not do anything to improve the health care system as it is simple does not address real world issues. Today health insurance is very big business and has very little to do with offering health care and a great deal to do with making profits for the insurers. Now you can of course talk to the insurers all you like however, unless the government is going to throw a considerable sum of money at the problem then costs will go on increasing. Anybody who has experience of private medical treatment carried out overseas will know only too well that much of the cost of providing care at home represents profits for the insurance companies and not the actual cost of providing care. You have only to seek major medical treatment in any of the wonderful hospitals in the Far East for example to see that you can get the very highest quality of care at a mere fraction of the cost of providing that same treatment in the US. And if you think that the standard of treatment overseas is not as good as that in the US then think again because a lot of the hospitals throughout the Far East are staffed by very highly qualified doctors and surgeons and have some of the most up-to-date equipment you will find anywhere in the world. It is all very well to talk about working with the insurers to lower costs but the truth of the matter is that it is not in their interests to do so. Costs will stay high and in fact will continue to increase until the US government decides to take over responsibility for the provision of the mainstay of health care in the US.
